Coach Lynch has been developing/mentoring student-athletes for approximately 35 years! He started out coaching at the local Park and YMCA youth level before moving onto the AAU level. He coached at Price High school in Los Angeles for 19 seasons. Under his leadership, the program became nationally known. During his tenure, Price won 10 CIF Southern Section Championships, 8 Southern California Regional Championships, and 6 California State Championships. To date, Price High School holds the record as only one of two schools to win 4 consecutive boys California Boys Basketball State championships in all of CIF history!

In 2015, Coach Lynch began coaching at La Salle High School in Pasadena Calif. In his very first season, he led the team to their first CIF Championship Appearance in over 50 years.

Personally, Coach Lynch has built his own remarkable track record.  During his 26 seasons, he has accumulated over 600 wins. Out of the over 200 young men that he has coached, more than 35 (over 15%) have received scholarships to many well-known colleges across the country. His players have received several notable awards, including CIF State Player of the Year, All-State Player of the Year, Gatorade Player of the Year, Mr. Basketball of California, and the prestigious John R. Wooden Award.  In addition, his players have gone on to become coaches, doctors, athletic directors, entrepreneurs, business professionals, spouses, parents, and overall successful men and women.

To his credit, Coach Lynch has been honored as Coach of the Year by the CIF, SCIBA, The Los Angeles Times, The Wave Newspapers, and the Pasadena Star News. Most recently, he was inducted into the California Interscholastic Federation’s High School Coach’s Hall of Fame. His advice is sought by coaches and players at all levels throughout the country.  

In addition to coaching, Coach Lynch was also a Los Angeles Police Officer. “Detective” Lynch retired from LAPD after over 15 years of service to his community. After which, he also volunteered for the LAPD as a “reserve” for an additional 7 years. He was employed at Crenshaw Christian Center as the Head of Security for 16 years.  

Currently, as a resident of McDonough, Georgia, Coach Lynch has been married to his wife Becky for over 42 years.  The couple has three grown children, son Mychal (married to Wambui), twin daughters Angel and Ashlee, and two grandsons, Mychal, Jr. and Matthew.

Coach Lynch’s induction into the CIF Hall of Fame

In June 2022, “CIF Southern Section Commissioner of Athletics, Rob Wigod, announced news of the board’s unanimous decision to grant Coach Michael Lynch Hall of Fame status.

He congratulated Coach Lynch and recognized his outstanding contributions to the CIF Southern Section athletics, which was celebrated at the October 12, 2022, awards luncheon.

This designation also comes with an esteemed Gold Life Pass.”

Coach Lynch’s commendation from los Angeles police department

In June 2022, Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Deputy Chief for the South Bureau, Gerald Woodyard, presented a commendation on behalf of Chief Michel Moore, who entered the academy with Lynch in 1985.

Lynch was recognized for his 15 years of service to residents as an officer and detective.
